The Tarantella Security Pack supports X.509 server certificates in Base 64-encoded format. These have the following structure:
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- ... certificate ... -----END CERTIFICATE-----
Different Certificate Authorities issue different flavors of certificate. By default, these flavors are supported:
Certificate Authority | Certificate Flavor |
---|---|
VeriSign, Inc | Secure Server ID |
Thawte Consulting | Basic Web Server Certificate |
You can use any other flavor of X.509 certificate from any Certificate Authority, for example a test certificate valid for a limited period. However, by default all users are prompted to accept or decline these certificates because they can't be validated by Tarantella.
With additional configuration you can permanently add a new certificate flavor, so that users are not prompted and certificates are validated.
